Municipal Council Elections: Scrutiny of papers completed in Sangrur

The papers of a total of 418 candidates who filed their nomination papers at various places for Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat elections in district Sangrur were scrutinized today. During the scrutiny, the papers of 32 candidates out of 418 candidates have been rejected while the papers of 386 candidates have been found correct. According to Additional District Electoral Officer Sukhchain Singh Papara, 150 candidates had submitted nomination papers for a total of 29 wards of Municipal Council Sangrur, of which only 1 candidate’s papers have been rejected. Papers of all candidates out of total 52 candidates for Nagar Panchayat Dirba have been found correct. Papers of all 59 candidates of Nagar Panchayat Munak have been found correct. Papers of only 1 candidate out of 88 candidates for Nagar Panchayat Khanori have been rejected. For Municipal Council Sunam by-election, out of total 8 candidates, 3 candidates’ papers have been rejected and 5 candidates’ papers have been found correct. Out of a total of 59 candidates of Nagar Panchayat Cheema Mandi, the papers of 27 candidates have been rejected while the papers of 32 have been found correct. Papers of total 2 candidates have been found correct for Municipal Council Dhuri by-election. Mr. Papara said that tomorrow, December 14, the candidates can withdraw their nomination papers till three o’clock in the afternoon. It may be mentioned that general elections for Sangrur Municipal Council, by-elections for Dhuri and Sunam Municipal Councils while general elections are to be held for Nagar Panchayat Cheema, Khanuri, Munak and Dirba.

Protest on cancellation of papers

Sunam Udham Singh Wala (Bir Inder Singh Banbhori): Enraged by the rejection of the papers of some of the candidates who wanted to contest elections for various wards of Nagar Panchayat Cheema, their supporters staged a protest in front of the SDM office against the Punjab government and administration. Slogans were raised. Constituency in-charge of Shiromani Akali Dal Rajinder Deepa said that Aam Aadmi Party is canceling the nomination papers of candidates of opposition parties for no reason. Dipa said that the prospective candidates of many wards of Cheema sat waiting for the office of the Returning Officer to post the list of eligible candidates on the board, but after the end of the office hours, the list board was removed. has been placed on Rajinder Deepa said that he will not refrain from knocking the door of the court.
