Nitish Kumar has won the post of President in the election of Jawaharlal Nehru University i.e. JNU Students Union. Nitish Kumar defeated ABVP’s Shikha Swaraj with 1,702 votes, who got 1,430 votes. He was a AISA-DSF alliance candidate.

Nitish is doing PHD from the Center of Political Studies at JNU’s School of Social Sciences. The main subjects of his research are associated with caste, law and judiciary.

The total voter turnout in JNU election was 70%. Nitish Kumar won the post of President with 1702 votes.

Nitish Kumar is from Araria of Bihar

Nitish comes from Sheikhpura village in Araria district of Bihar. His father is a farmer and mother is a housewife. Nitish did his early studies from Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir in Forbesganj. Then did BA in Political Science from Banaras Hindu University (BHU). After this, JNU came for Masters in 2020.

Nitish’s political journey has always been associated with raising the voice of the deprived sections. In 2021, when JNU was closed due to Corona, he led the ‘Reopen JNU’ movement to provide students again to study and hostels.

In 2023, he also went on hunger strike for 16 days over huge shortage in the hostel, which was considered a major step in the recent movements of JNU. He has also been the secretary of the All India Students Association, ie AISA’s JNU unit and has raised his voice against increasing scholarship, restoring fair entrance exam and political appointments in the university.

Nitish Kumar will end the Chief Proctor’s Office Rules

After becoming the president, the main work that Nitish has talked about is-

  1. Increasing funds for better facilities in the university.
  2. To apply JNUEE (JNU Entrance Exam) again in JNU.
  3. To abolish the rules of the Chief Proctor’s Office forcibly imposing a fine on students.
  4. To ensure a single room hostel facility for women from the second year.
  5. Reinforce the democratic atmosphere in JNU.
