New Delhi: Rajesh Khanna, this name still echoes the kind of stardom that no actor has been made again. Khanna’s fan following, known as India’s first true superstar, was something that has never been seen before and has rarely imagined. But behind the attraction and blockbuster hit, there were also moments of stress and misunderstanding, including a real on-screen slap.
First of all superstars
In the early 1970s, Rajesh was ruling the silver screen. From emotional drama to romantic stories, his presence illuminated theaters across the country. His superstardem was unmatched in this golden era of his career and for some time, he was the face of Hindi cinema. But when he was living the life of a superstar, his personal life was going through ups and downs, especially when it came to love.
A relationship that became bitter
As News-Patiala said, before the quarrel with Sanjeev Kumar, Rajesh Khanna had a long time girlfriend Anju Mahendru. Both were reportedly in a live-in relationship from 1966 to 1972. However, their relationship did not last long and they too left Rajesh Khanna’s life. Rajesh Khanna wanted to marry her, but Anju turned down his proposal and proceeded. Eventually Rakhi’s bond was misunderstood and immediately after the breakup, such rumors started flying in the media. According to the gossip column, Anju was romantically associated with actor Sanjeev Kumar, not anyone else. For Rajesh Khanna, this news was like a shock, and it did not become good with him and later took the form of a real fight on the set of the same quarrel.
Hit the real slap on the set
Allegedly, Anju’s mother looked at Sanjeev Kumar like her brother and tied a rakhi on her wrist every year. Therefore, when rumors about Anju’s relationship with Sanjeev Kumar started spreading, it made him very sad. A few years later, Rajesh Khanna and Sanjeev Kumar worked together in a film. Please tell that Anju Mahendru and Rajesh Khanna started talking again in 1988 and remained friends till Khanna’s death. Later, Rajesh Khanna married actress Dimple Kapadia in March 1973. At that time she was just 15 years old. His first film ‘Bobby’ was released in September the same year. The couple had two daughters – Twinkle and Rinke. Although he separated in 1982, he never officially divorced.
At the same time, Anju Mahendru did not stay in a relationship with Sanjeev Kumar for a long time and she married Imilyian Khan. With them, that relationship remained for only 7 years and then they separated. Anju is still living alone at the age of 79. They do not even have any children.
