The judge has set January 10 as the date for the sentencing of US President-elect Donald Trump, who is accused of hush money to silence a porn star. This would make Trump the first US president to be a felon.
All eyes are on the dramatic verdict, which comes 10 days before Trump is sworn in as the country’s president for the second time, and it is believed that the case can be closed without him being sentenced. Manhattan Judge Juan Mercen indicated on Friday that Trump would not be sent to prison. Whatever the decision, it is certain that Trump will enter the White House as a criminal. They can be punished with fines up to four years.
According to a BBC report, New York Judge Juan Marchen indicated that he would not jail or fine Trump. Instead, they will be granted “parole”. He also wrote in his order that presidential appointees can appear for the hearing in person or virtually.
In his latest motion against the case, Trump argued that the case would hang over his presidency and impede his ability to govern. Justice Marchen said he had been advised of various measures he could take. Their options include delaying the sentence until Trump, 78, leaves the White House in 2029, or guaranteeing a sentence that does not include prison time.
