Now what you think will write to AI! Australian scientists prepared this unique smart cap

Smart Cap: Researchers in Australia have developed an Artificial Intelligence (AI) system that can convert human brainwaves into text. In simple words, this technique has the ability to convert thinking into words. While till now doctors used EEG (electroncephalogram) only to examine neurological diseases, scientists of the University of Technology (UTS) of Sydney are using it in reading ideas.

How this AI model works

This unique AI model PHD student Charles (Jinjhao) Jhou and his supervisor Chin-Teng Lynn and Dr. Lyong have been prepared. In this, the signals from EEG are translated into words using deep learning. In one example, Dr. Lyong wore a 128-electrode EEG cap and just thought without saying “I am jumping happy, it’s just me”. The result was, the AI model presented the same sentence in words. Currently, this model has been trained on limited words and sentences so that every word can be easily identified.

Cleans signal by removing noise

Signals coming from EEG are often complicated because signs produced from different brain sources are found together. In this model, unwanted noise (noise) is removed using AI and the actual brainwave pattern is cleaned and converted into text.

Non-invasive technology, separated from neurolink

Techniques like Alan Musk’s neuralink are also working towards decoding ideas but they usually adopt invasive (ie device transplanted) method. At the same time, this discovery of Australian scientists is completely non-invasive. According to Professor Lynn, “Non-invasive technology does not make it possible to directly reach the part of the brain where words decodes are so limited. But this method is safe and useful.”

Revolution in medical world

The biggest benefit of this technique can be available to those patients who are struggling with situations like stroke, paralysis or difficulty speaking. It can also play a big role in autism related speech therapy and rehabilitation. Not only Australia, but scientists all over the world are working on the amazing possibilities related to the brain by adding EEG and AI.

Recently, researchers at Mass General Brigham have prepared an AI tool which can analyze the EEG pattern during sleep and forecast a cognitive decline years ago. In this study, this tool was successful in correctly identifying 85% of cases with a total accuracy of 77%.

How this smart cap works

This smart cap has advanced sensors and deep learning algorithms. When a person wears a cap, it reads the waves of his brain. Usually, whenever our brain thinks, neural signal activity of a particular pattern is produced in it. This cap catchs the signals to the AI system, where the deep learning model decodes them and turns them into text. That is, if a person is unable to speak or is unable to reveal his talk due to serious illness, then he will be able to think only to others by thinking.
