Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology and Communications Nishikant Dubey said on Tuesday that his committee will take action against Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg for that false statement. In which Zuckerberg has said that the current Indian government lost the general elections due to not taking proper action to fight Covid.
Dubey said, “My committee will call Meta to answer for this misinformation. Misinformation tarnishes the image of any democratic country. That institution will have to apologize to the Indian Parliament and the people here for this mistake.”
He said this in a post on social media platform X, in which he also tagged Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav. Vaishnav on Monday dismissed Zuckerberg’s comment that the current government in India lost the general election after a weak Covid-19 response.
Fact-checking the META chief, Vaishnav said that his statement was factually incorrect. Pointing to the X, the minister said, “India as the world’s largest democracy held the 2024 elections with more than 64 crore voters. The people of India reaffirmed their faith in the NDA led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Zuckerberg’s claim that most of the incumbent governments including India lost the 2024 elections post-Covid is factually incorrect.”
