Amid reports of the Indian cricket team not going to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav said that it is not right to mix sports and politics. Tejashwi Yadav asked the question that why the players have objection to go to neighboring countries to play cricket? Former professional cricketer Yadav said that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi can go to Pakistan and eat ‘Biryani’ then it is okay for Indian cricket team players to go to Pakistan for an important tournament.
Tejashwi Yadav told the media that it is not right to mix politics in sports. We should go, other teams should come to India… Doesn’t everyone participate in the Olympics? Why India should not go to Pakistan? What is the objection? If the Prime Minister can go there and eat biryani, it is good if the Indian team goes; Why is it not good?
This happened after India refused to send the team across the border, after which the International Cricket Council (ICC) convened a meeting of executive members on November 29 to resolve the issue of scheduling the major event. But, just ahead of this meeting, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday told the ICC that it would not accept a hybrid model for the Champions Trophy, and asked not to discuss the option at the meeting.
The PCB is adamantly opposed to the hybrid model and has advised the ICC to consider other options for organizing the Champions Trophy. It said that this model would mean giving priority to India. A source said that initially the PCB had considered the possibility of a hybrid model on the condition that if India could not play in Pakistan, then all future ICC events held in India till 2031 would have a hybrid model, viz. That Pakistan will not go and play in India.
