Actually, Renuka Thakur of Parsa village of Rohru in Shimla district was brought up in difficult circumstances by her mother Sunita Thakur. When Renuka was only two years old, her father passed away. After this, the mother raised Renuka Thakur and elder brother.

Father was fond of cricket

Renuka’s father himself was a fan of cricket. Especially he respected Vinod Kambli and Sachin Tendulkar a lot. For this reason, he named his son and Renuka’s brother Vinod. Renuka’s father wanted his children to become Kabaddi and cricket players. Renuka Thakur has fulfilled her father’s dream. All this has been possible due to the efforts of his mother.

Renuka did her primary education in the local school. During this time Renuka used to play cricket with the village boys and brother. PT teacher Bhupendra Thakur was impressed after seeing Renuka’s bowling. He suggested his sister-in-law to put Renuka in the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Academy, Dharamshala.

Renuka’s mother also accepted the advice of her brother-in-law and sent Renuka to HPCA in 2009. From here Renuka started playing for Himachal’s Under-16 and Under-19 teams.

Renuka Debuted in T-20 in 2021

Renuka made her T-20 debut against Australia in October 2021 and ODI debut against New Zealand in February 2022. Renuka Singh was the highest wicket-taker in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. She has been awarded the ‘Emerging Woman Cricketer of the Year’ by ICC in the year 2022.

Bowled economically in the tournament
