Improvement in maternal death
Between 2000 and 2023, the maternal death has declined by 40% in the whole world. The main reason for this is that during this time the reach of health services has increased and quality has improved.
Condition in India also improved, but far behind China
The death ratio of the maternal death ratio (MMR) i.e. the death of mothers on the birth of every 1 lakh living children in India was 362 in the year 2000. It has come down to 80 in 2023. China is a country with almost equal population of India and is far ahead in this matter.
