President Draupadi Murmu’s advocacy of ‘One Country, One Election’


New Delhi, January 25

President Draupadi Murmu today advocated the ‘One Nation, One Election’ initiative. He claimed that it has the potential to redefine ‘good governance’ in the country by promoting integrity in governance, removing policy bottlenecks, preventing misuse of resources and reducing the financial burden of the state. During his address to the nation on the eve of the 76th Republic Day, the President mentioned the efforts being made by the government to eliminate the remnants of the colonial mentality that has been going on for decades in the country. He referred to the replacement of British-era criminal laws with three new modern laws. Referring to legal reforms, he pointed to the need to replace the Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code, and Indian Evidence Act with new laws reflecting Indian traditions. He mentioned the introduction of the Indian Judicial Code, the Indian Civil Protection Code and the Indian Sakshya Adhiniyam, which give priority to the administration of justice rather than punishment. Emphasizing the importance of the Constitution, the President also mentioned the achievements made in the last 75 years. -News-Patiala
