On the last day of filing nomination papers for Patiala Municipal Corporation elections, the atmosphere in the city remained tense throughout the day. BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal leaders accused AAP workers of tearing nomination papers and beating up their candidates. Meanwhile, they also protested against the government. Former Union Minister and BJP leader Praneet Kaur alleged that MLA Ajitpal Kohli is involved in bullying. He also talked about knocking the door of the High Court. BJP state leader Harwinder Singh Harpalpur said that AAP activists of around two dozen BJP candidates including BJP local president Vijay Kumar Kooka, Varun Jindal, Sunil Nair, Nikhil Kaka and Seema Rani tore the nomination forms. He said that an ‘AAP’ activist took away the file from the hands of the BJP candidate only when he was talking to Praneet Kaur. On this occasion, MLA Ajitpal Kohli and state president of BJP Women’s Morcha, Jayinder Kaur, suddenly came together in the Mini Secretariat and cursed AAP in front of the MLA. On the other hand, MLA Kohli put the bottle forward and asked Jayinder Kaur for water, but she put the water bottle back. BJP and AAP workers were seen quarreling here. Shiromani Akali Dal district president Amit Singh Rathi said that 31 out of 60 candidates were not allowed to fill the nomination forms. He said that only 29 candidates could fill the papers.
Complaint by Mohit Mahindra against ‘AAP’ to the Election Commission
Patiala (Gurnam Singh Akida): Opposition parties have accused the ‘AAP’ government of interfering in the process of filing papers for Patiala municipal elections. Youth Congress state president Mohit Mahindra said that the ‘AAP’ government, with the help of the police, did not allow the opposition candidates to enter the building, which prevented them from filing their nomination papers. Mohit Mahindra said that the Congress has complained about it to the Election Commission. Meanwhile, former councilor Hardeep Singh Khaira from Ward Four said that when he went to Block-D to submit the papers, the police there said that a case has been registered against him in connection with the accident. After this, the police dropped him at Fagan Majra police post, from where he was released at 4 o’clock. Patiala Urban MLA Ajitpal Singh Kohli said that the allegations made by Congressmen are false.
