Phagwara, 9 December
Various Hindu organizations staged protests due to the sudden death of 20 cows and 28 falling ill in a cowshed here. They alleged that poison was given in the feed of the cows, following which the bandh was called on Monday.
However, the officials said that no ill intention is suspected behind the incident. A police official said on Monday that an FIR has been registered in this case and the case is being investigated from all aspects. Phagwara Superintendent of Police Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said that 20 cows died and 28 others fell ill at Sri Krishna Gaushala at Mehligate here on Sunday night.
A board of veterinarians at the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (Gadavasu) is conducting the post-mortem of the carcasses. Bhatti said that the actual cause of death will be known after the post-mortem report. “We have not found any bad intention behind the incident but we are investigating the matter from all angles,” he said.
The CCTV footage of the cowshed is being scanned to find out if there was any mischief behind the incident. Sick cows are being treated by a team of veterinarians. A case has been registered under section 299 and 325 in this case on the complaint of Satnam Singh, the manager of the cowshed.
On the other hand, Phagwara was kept closed on the invitation of various Hindu organizations in protest against this incident. Hindu organizations alleged that the fodder of the cows was poisoned and demanded the arrest of those behind the incident. A large number of activists of Hindu organizations took out protest marches in different markets. News-Patiala
