Cutting of trees in public park
While giving information to the police, complainant Dr. Amandeep Singh Bains said that unauthorized cutting of trees was being done in a public park on Basant Avenue. In this matter, members of the Public Action Committee (PAC) have also lodged a complaint regarding this incident at Basant City Police Station and Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA). After which the police investigated and registered the case.
The trees were 20 years old
PAC member Dr Amandeep Bains said he saw the fallen trees and informed the police control room (PCR). They were asked to lodge a formal complaint at the nearest police station. The trees planted by Bains and his team about 20 years ago had fully grown.
He alleged that the owner of a nearby house hired laborers to cut trees and allowed them to take the wood as payment. Dr. Bains said that this is not only a case of illegal cutting of trees but also a case of theft.
When asked about this, the home owner offered to plant new trees to compensate for the damage. However, Bains rejected the proposal, saying that the environmental damage caused by cutting fully grown trees could not be compensated.
