National Women Commission member Mamta Kumari reached Kapurthala today. He visited the Central Jail. During this, took stock of the efforts being made to protect the human rights of women. He met the administrative officers under the leadership of DC Amit Kumar Panchal.

Visiting the Central Jail, he took stock of the arrangements to protect the human rights of prisoners. He interacted with the women prisoners in the Central Jail and heard their difficulties and got information about the free legal aid available as per rules.

Instructions given for free legal aid to women prisoners

Mamata Kumari directed the Central Jail and administrative authorities to provide free legal aid to needy women prisoners. So that they can protect themselves despite not being financially capable. He said that it is necessary for the prisoners to have Aadhar card. For this, a camp should be set up in the Central Jail. Apart from this, arrangements should be made to give pension to widow women lodged in Central Jail.

He also inspected the arrangements for providing work to the women prisoners in the jail as per their skills and said that they should be given work as per their skills. So that they can start life in a new way and participate in the progress of the society. Mamta said that awareness programs should be run to improve the behavior of prisoners in jail. So that it can actually become a reformatory.

Mamta Kumari asked to improve the facilities provided to destitute women like accommodation, food and free legal aid. In view of the upcoming winter season, he also asked to make necessary arrangements to protect from cold.

Campaign for free legal services will run in jail

Earlier, the members of the Commissionerate were welcomed under the leadership of DC Amit Kumar Panchal. He told the commission member that a special medical camp is organized every Friday in the Central Jail. So that the prisoners can solve their health related problems. He said that a special campaign will be run under free legal services in the jail. So that every needy can get legal help. On this occasion, ADC (General) Navneet Kaur Ball, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Anupam Kaler, SP Sarabjit Roy, SDM Major Irwin Kaur, District Program Officer Rajiv Dhanda, Central Jail officials and Health Department officials were present.
