Punjab News: Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa, who fought for the captive Sikhs, died on Wednesday at the age of 91. Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa started his hunger strike on January 16, 2015 at the age of 82, demanding the release of captive Sikhs.
Their demand was to release those Sikh prisoners who are in jail despite completing their sentences. Their hunger strike lasted till January 14, 2023.
Thus their movement is counted among the longest and most important non-violent protests in the history of Punjab. He was a resident of Hasanpur village on Ferozepur Road in Ludhiana.
