Punjab News: Driver along with NRI coming home from airport dies in road accident, mother injured

Due to a collision of a taxi with a tractor-trolley near Sugar Mill Chowk on the National Highway Phagwara late last night, two persons including Australian NRI Dilpreet Singh (28) of Ludhiana and taxi driver Yuvraj Masih died on the spot while Gurinder Kaur (mother of deceased NRI Dilpreet) was seriously injured. Gurinder Kaur, who was injured in the accident, was first admitted to the local civil hospital, but due to her critical condition, she was referred to DMC Ludhiana.

Harpreet Singh, father of deceased NRI Dilpreet, said that his wife had returned from Australia with her NRI son Dilpreet and were coming to Ludhiana in a taxi after landing at Amritsar airport, while the vehicle was carrying a tractor trolley full of sugarcane which was a reflector. It was running without, collided with. After the incident, the tractor managed to escape leaving behind the accident vehicle and the injured in a pool of blood.

Investigating officer Jatinder Singh said that the police have registered a case under section 304A, 337,338,426 IPC against the tractor driver who is still absconding. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their family members today after post-mortem.
