Chandigarh, December 8
The court has extended the police remand of Narayan Singh Chauda, who attacked Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal in Sri Harmandir Sahib complex, by three days. The police produced him again in the court today and asked for further police remand for questioning.
It may be mentioned that Narayan Singh Chaudhary tried to shoot Sukhbir Singh Badal in Sri Harmandir Sahib complex on December 4, but this attack was foiled due to the vigilance of a police officer. The police had earlier produced Chawda in the court on December 5 and he was remanded for three days, which ended today and he has been produced again in the court.
Shiromani Akali Dal president and former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal had to be told outside the Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar on Wednesday morning that Chaudhary had written books on Sikh militancy. Chaudhary visited Pakistan three times before returning to India in 1995. He has also been accused of helping Hawara and others escape in the 2004 Burail jail case. News-Patiala
