Punjab Weather UpdateUnseasonal rain has increased the cold in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and the capital Delhi. It rained heavily late Friday night. Hail has also fallen in many areas. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of rain. Cold will increase with rain.

Rain (IMD Cold Wave Alert) occurred in most parts of North India including Punjab and Haryana. The mercury has also dropped to 5 degrees Celsius due to rain. On the other hand, after the hailstorm in Punjab and Haryana, the farmers are worried. Although this rain may prove to be a boon for the wheat crop, hail will prove to be harmful for crops and vegetables. Meteorologists have issued a heavy rainfall yellow alert on 28 and 29 December. Along with this, a yellow alert has been issued regarding dense fog. There was dense fog in Punjab this morning.

It started raining in most of the cities of Punjab from the early hours of yesterday morning and in the afternoon there was hail along with rain in the capital Chandigarh, Mohali, Patiala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Fazilka and many other areas. After this, it continued to rain in most parts of Punjab till late night.

During the next 24 hours Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to receive light to moderate rain and snow with isolated heavy rains. Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh may receive light to moderate snowfall. West Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Haryana may receive light to moderate rain and heavy rain at some places. East Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Rayalaseema may receive light to moderate rain. Light rain is likely over Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep.
