A cold wave and dense fog have been predicted in Punjab on December 24, 25 and 26. Meanwhile, rain will also continue. A further drop in temperature of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius will be recorded.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rains in several states amid the ongoing cold snap in North India. According to the IMD, the severe cold conditions will worsen due to rains from the Western Disturbance. The situation is likely to worsen in states like Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana in the next seven days. The Meteorological Department has warned of an intense Western Disturbance affecting Northwest India from the night of December 26. A cyclonic circulation is likely to form over Southwest Rajasthan on December 27, which, along with easterly winds, will bring high moisture from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal by December 28.
According to the IMD, bitter cold and heavy rains are likely to occur in Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana in the next seven days. According to the Meteorological Department, Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur and Mandi districts of Himachal Pradesh are on orange alert. Scattered rain is likely over the regions of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi-NCR during the next few days. There is a possibility of fog and light rain in some areas of Chandigarh in Punjab.
