Rajasthan government has announced major changes to change the examination system of schools. This will reduce exam pressure on students, increase flexibility and more and more students will be able to achieve better scores.
Rajasthan’s School Education and Panchayati Raj Minister Madan Dilawar has said that RBSE i.e. Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education, Ajmer will conduct board exams twice a year for classes 10th and 12th from the academic session 2026-27. He said this during a public event being held in Ganesh Nagar, Kota.
It is important for everyone to take the first exam
According to the new system, it will be necessary for all students to appear for the first i.e. main board exam. This exam will be held in the time of February-March. After this, there will be a second session of board exams in May-June, in which students will have a chance to improve their marks.
Both the exams will be based on the entire syllabus. There will be no change in study pattern or exam planning. Students who appear in the first exam can appear in the second phase to improve their marks in maximum three subjects. For this, students who have completely missed the first phase can appear in the board exam to be held in the second phase. For this they will have to take a valid medical certificate or approval from the District Education Officer (Secondary).
There will be no change in the examination fees for both the attempts. RBSE will adopt the formula of ‘Best of two attempts’ for this. That means, whichever of the two attempts has got better marks, the marks of that one will be added to the final result.
Minister Dilawar said that the system of two exams will reduce exam stress, increase flexibility and the state’s examination process will be aligned with NEP i.e. National Education Policy. NEP focuses on student friendly assessment models.
Announcement has already been made in CBSE Board
Board exams have already been announced twice a year by CBSE i.e. Central Board of Secondary Education. Board’s 10th class students will appear for the exam twice a year from 2026. With this, supplementary exams have been abolished. This decision will not be applicable to CBSE 12th board right now.
3 important things about the new exam pattern of CBSE Board

- Students of winter bound schools will be allowed to appear for either of the two examinations.
- If a student has not appeared in 3 or more subjects in the first examination, he/she will not be allowed to appear in the second examination.
