Religious Places: Supreme Court restrains courts across the country from issuing orders on surveys of places of worship


New Delhi, December 12

In an important order issued on Thursday, the Supreme Court has restrained all the courts of the country from taking any action on the claims of places of worship or the lawsuits filed or being filed to change their character. The apex court said that no court in the country should issue any interim or final order or hear any such suit seeking relief under the 1991 Act, including the survey of places of worship.

This order was issued by a bench of Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar and KV Viswanathan. It is to be noted that the bench is hearing various petitions and counter petitions related to the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991. This hearing has started today before this special bench. -News-Patiala
