New Delhi, December 9
The Politburo of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) on Monday expressed concern over the lawsuits being filed for surveying the ruins of temples beneath ancient mosques across the country. In a statement issued in this regard, the CPM said, “After Varanasi and Mathura, a trial court in Sambhal ordered a survey of a 16th-century mosque. This resulted in violence in which four Muslim youths were killed. After this, a similar petition regarding Ajmer Sharif Dargah has been heard in the civil court of Ajmer.”
A two-day meeting of the CPI(M) politburo was held here on December 7-8, after which the Left party in a statement here said it was unfortunate that the Supreme Court had not intervened to stop such trials. . “The Supreme Court’s 2019 five-judge bench judgment on the Ayodhya dispute clearly upheld the validity and enforceability of the law (on places of worship),” the statement said. In view of this direction, it is necessary that the Supreme Court intervenes to stop such actions, as doing so is clearly a violation of the Act.”

A number of lawsuits filed in various courts related to temple-mosque disputes have come into focus, including the Gyanvapi Masjid in Varanasi, the Shahi Eidgah Mosque in Mathura, the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal, the Sufi saint Moinuddin Chishti’s Ajmer Sharif Dargah and the Badayun Jama. including the mosque. The petitioners everywhere claim that these mosques have been built after the destruction of ancient temples and they are seeking permission to perform Hindu worship there.
The Supreme Court has constituted a special bench to hear several PILs challenging the validity of certain provisions of the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991. It is to be noted that this Act prohibits filing a suit to reclaim a place of worship or seek change in it. According to the Act, the form and character of places of worship across the country should be maintained on August 15, 1947.
Along with this, the party condemned the attacks on the minorities in the neighboring country Bangladesh and said that the activities of the Islamic extremist forces are being ignored by the Bangladesh administration. The party said that the interim government of Bangladesh should ensure the protection of religious minorities. The CPI (M) also alleged that the BJP-RSS and Hindutva outfits were also trying to incite passion there. -News-Patiala
