RG Kar Case: Suggestions on safety of medical professionals to be shared with NTF: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has asked the parties to share their recommendations and suggestions with the National Task Force (NTF) appointed by the court in view of the safety of doctors and medical staff in hospitals and to prevent sexual violence.

A bench of Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar said that the NTF will file its report within 12 weeks from today.

It is to be mentioned that the Supreme Court had constituted the NTF on August 20 to formulate a protocol to ensure the safety of medical professionals in the wake of the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The Chief Justice while hearing the matter himself said that the next hearing of this case will be held in the week starting from 17 March 2025, but he also said that if there is a delay in the trial of the rape and murder case, then the parties will be heard first. can demand

Earlier, the NTF, in a report submitted in November, said there was no need for a separate central law to deal with crimes against healthcare professionals. The panel said that state laws have adequate provisions under the Indian Code of Criminal Procedure, 2023 to deal with minor everyday offenses apart from serious offences. News-Patiala
