Peel Regional Police Extortion Investigative Task Force (EITF) investigators have arrested five more people in connection with extortion-related incidents targeting South Asian businesses in Brampton and Mississauga.
The EITF continues to work with law enforcement partners across Canada to investigate these incidents. Recently the EITF arrested five suspects on various charges and seized four weapons. There are demands for large sums of money under threats against the arrested persons.
According to a press note released on the official website of Peel Regional Police, they have been identified as 27-year-old Bandhuman Sekhon, 25-year-old Harmanjit Singh, 44-year-old Tejinder Tatla, 21-year-old Rukhsar Achakzai, 24-year-old Dinesh Kumar and They are facing a total of 16 charges.

Rukhsar Achakzai, 21, of Brampton, was arrested on July 30, 2024 and charged with extortion, fraud under $5000.00 for the September 2023 incidents. He was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton and has since been released on court-imposed conditions. It is worth mentioning that Rukhsar is quite popular with the phrase ‘Hanji ki Gao’ on social media. People of Punjab are often using these words to advertise on social media and make videos.

It may be mentioned that till date EITF has investigated more than 60 incidents and made 21 arrests. The investigation also led to the recovery of 20 firearms, over 11 kilograms of methamphetamine, over $10,000 in cash and six stolen vehicles.
