Calgary: The monthly meeting of the Calgary Women’s Cultural Association was well attended here at the Genesis Centre. President of the Sabha Balwinder Kaur Brar welcomed all the sisters and briefly shared her views on Safar-e-Shahadat and Chali Muktas. Secretary Gurnam Kaur started the proceedings of the assembly and after paying homage to all the martyrs of the month of Poh, the four Sahibzades and Mata Gujri ji, besides Hazrat Isa Masih, introduced the newly arrived 7 members to the assembly.
In the first round of compositions, Gurdish Kaur Grewal, Ranjit Kaur Long, Jasminder Kaur Brar, Amarjit Kaur Grewal, Surinder Kaur Sandhu, Juginder Purba, Satwinder Kaur Farwaha, Bhagwant Kaur, Kuldeep Kaur Ghatoda, Gurtej Sidhu, Kiran Kalsi Gurjit Kaur Baidwan, Amarjit Kaur Virdi, Lakhwinder Kaur and Harjit Kaur Johal from Sarbansdani Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s family He paid homage to the sacrifices of all the martyrs of the month of December by presenting emotional songs, poems and other compositions about Shahadat, Chamkaur Sahib Di Garhi, Sirhind Ki Neehan, Moti Ram Mehra and Diwan Todar Mall.
In the second round of the meeting, Balveer Kaur Hajuria recited a folk song and Sarabjit Uppal recited a humorous poem. Balveer Kaur Grewal in her melodious voice sang a song representing the wishes of a newly married army wife. Gyan Kaur shares emotional stories about her visit to Gurdhams in Pakistan. Young members Maninder Kaur and Karampreet Kaur performed volunteer services. Harpreet Kaur Sandhu offered her volunteer services to fill pension forms.
Balwinder Kaur Brar introduced Sukhbir Singh Grewal who informed the members of the assembly about the Punjabi classes running at the Genesis Center to connect the children with the mother tongue. To preserve the memories of the Calgary Women’s Cultural Association, all the sisters were honored by the congregation with gifts as the year ended.
