New Delhi, December 9

RBI Governor: The Central Government has appointed Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra as the new Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). He will take over on December 11 after the retirement of incumbent Governor Shaktikanta Das. Prior to this, Shaktikanta served as RBI Governor for six years, which is the longest tenure of any RBI Governor. He was appointed as the Governor of RBI on 12 December 2018 and his tenure was for three years. After this, his term of office was again extended for three years.

On the other hand, Sanjay Malhotra is a 1990 batch IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre. He graduated in Engineering in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and did his Master’s degree in Public Policy from Princeton University, USA. He has worked in various fields including power, finance and taxation, information technology, mines etc. in a career spanning 33 years.
