New Delhi, December 11
The Ministry of Labor and Employment is working on a plan to provide various benefits like social security to employees who are paid on the basis of gig work and who work for online platforms across the country. A senior official gave this information today.
Addressing the Global Economic Policy Platform of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Union Labor Secretary Sumita Dawra said that the Labor Code on Social Security has outlined social security benefits for them.
He said, “We are planning for temporary workers and workers for online platforms. There is no traditional employer-employee relationship defined for such workers but we need to bring them a social safety net so that they can be more productive and support the country’s economy and the e-commerce and service sector more effectively. ” -News-Patiala
