Banur, 13 December
The supporters of Congress and Aam Aadmi Party came face to face today during the scrutiny of nominations regarding the by-election of ward number-six of Banur Municipal Council on December 21. At eight o’clock in the night, till this news was written, supporters of both the parties were stuck in the Municipal Council premises. Returning Officer Anil Bana and Assistant Returning Officer Gurdayal Ram were sitting waiting for the reply of the executive officer of the council regarding the objections raised by both parties against each other candidate and were talking about taking further action regarding the papers only after receiving the report. Police station chief Gursevak Singh and the police party were also present on the spot.
Today at around twelve o’clock in the afternoon, a list was put up by the returning officers that the nominations of Congress candidate Neelam Rani and her son covering candidate Naveen Kumar and Aam Aadmi Party candidate Balbir Singh and covering candidate Amit Kumar were found to be correct. Meanwhile, Ajay Mittal, husband of Aam Aadmi Party MLA of Rajpura Constituency Neena Mittal, along with his party’s candidate Balbir Singh and supporters, reached the municipal council office at around two o’clock in the afternoon. He called the RO to the office. After this, Balbir Singh objected to the Congress candidate Neelam Rani for illegally occupying the Shamlat place.
As soon as this was known, former Congress MLA Hardyal Singh Kamboj, candidate Neelam Rani and their supporters reached the council office. He filed a reply to the allegations made on the objection and also raised objections of illegal occupation of the AAP candidate.
