Shimla Weather: 87 roads closed for traffic due to snowfall

As many as 87 roads have been closed for traffic due to snowfall across the state, including Shimla, which is everyone’s favorite destination for scenic hills and tourism.

According to the latest reports, snowfall was recorded in Khoksar (6.7 cm), Khadrala (5 cm), Sangla (3.6 cm), Keylong (3.0 cm), and Shimla (2.5 cm). There was heavy rain in many places.

58 roads were closed in Rohru, Jubal and Kotkhai subdivisions in Shimla district. Snowfall affected 17 roads in Kinnaur, most of them in Pooh (12) and Kalpa blocks.

It may be noted that the Rohtang Pass National Highway was closed for traffic due to snow before Gulaba check post. For the first time since the 1990s, Shimla has received its first snowfall of the season in early December. However, electricity was also affected due to the snowfall, which disrupted more than 457 lines in Chamba, Mandi and Sirmaur districts.

According to the Meteorological Department, light rain and snowfall are expected in Lahaul and Spiti, Kullu and Kinnaur districts during the next few hours. Meanwhile, there is a possibility of light rain in some areas of district Sirmaur.
