The IPL is no longer limited to just fours and thrills. Technology is closely monitored on every corner of the field, whether the players are on the field or umpire sitting thousands of kilometers away. Yes, technology is the real superstar in today’s IPL match, which keeps an eye on every ball, every decision and every movement.
Let us know, which are the techniques that are making IPL even more advanced and how this umpire is also proving to be helpful in clearly showing fine things.
1. DRS- DRS i.e. Decision Review System is a technology that gives the player a chance to challenge the umpire’s decision. When a player is dismissed and he feels that the decision is wrong, he can take DRS. Under this, three special technology works.
- Hawk-Eye: Where the ball fell, where it collides and going towards the wicket, shows it.
- UltraEdge: Which holds the sound of light touch of bat and ball.
- Ball Tracking: Which suggests whether the ball was going towards the wicket after getting from the pad. Together these three help the third umpire to take the right decision, whether it is in the field or sitting thousands of kilometers away.
2. SpiderCam- Spidercam is a camera that flies into the air with the help of stars and gives a magnificent aerial view of the field. With this, every movement of the batsman, fielding position and action during running can be seen from above. This camera makes the match more exciting for the audience and commentary team, not for the umpire.
3. LED Stumps- LED Stumps is a new and smart technology that has now replaced old wooden stumps in the IPL. There are sensors inside these stumps and bails. As soon as the ball collides with the stumps or the bells moves at all, they shine with red light immediately. This clearly shows the third umpire to see if the ball touched the stump, and the bat was inside the crease or outside. Especially in close decisions like runout or stumping, this technology gives immediate and clear results, that too without any doubt.
4. Smart Replay System- There is now a system in the IPL from which the third umpire gets a clean and immediate reply to each angle. This is called Smart Replay System. With this technology, the umpire does not have to wait long and the decision gets quickly. Fans also do not have to be bored, the replay comes quickly and the decision is made in a pinch. This system with the help of special cameras and software brings every essential angle to the screen immediately.
5. Player Tracking System- In this technology, GPS and Motion Sensors are attached to the player’s body or in clothes. When the player runs, fielding or throws, these devices track every movement – such as how much running speed was, how much distance was covered, the throw was so fast, etc. This data is also useful in creating a great animation seen on TV and also helps in the performance analysis of the fielder. Meaning, every player’s hard work is no longer coach, crores of fans can also see clearly.
