Thieves have cut the iron grill of the gate made to increase-decrease the water flow of the canal on the bridge built on the Gharat of village Rasulpur within the area of Kasur Branch Lower Canal, several days ago.
Even till today, this matter could not come to the attention of the canal department officials. This grill was installed for the safety of the workers and machinery to rotate the gears used to raise and lower the canal water. Made of strong iron, this grill is heavy and valuable and has become a target of thieves. Built in the year 1962, this grill of this canal was being maintained due to being strong and out of the ability of thieves to steal it. It is understood that the thieves would have brought a gas-cutter on a tractor-trolley-like vehicle at night to cut it, which would have taken at least two hours. Meanwhile, their activities could not be noticed by the police, nor was it noticed by any officer of the sub divisional level office located in the same village of the department. In this regard, the police also did not register a case of theft as there was no complaint.
When contacted, Simranjit Singh, Executive Engineer (Axion) of the Canal Department, said that this matter was not in his attention, due to which no further action was taken.
