YouTube AI Feature: YouTube has added a new AI feature to its Age Estimation Tool to further strengthen the online security of children. With the help of this feature, the platform will now be able to identify the account of users under 18 years of age. Its purpose is to keep minors away from adult content. Google has decided to impose many new restrictions on such accounts. This is seen by looking at the account activity of AI user whether the child is using the account or an adult.
Sudden changes to users
According to a report by 9to5google, many users on Reddit have complained that their accounts have seen unexpected changes. Accounts which AI considered a minor, received a pop-up notification stating that their age could not be confirmed and hence the settings have been changed.
YouTube has already made it clear that it is working on bringing such technology that can recognize the accounts of minors created by stating fake age. The new AI is now capable of correctly identified based on user’s activities like video search, watch history and age.
How will AI affect settings
If AI decides that an account belongs to a minor, then it automatically converts that account into a restricted minor account. On the other hand, if an adult’s account turns into a minor by mistake, then he can verify his age and make it back an adult account. For verification, users will have to upload birth certificate, government ID or other official documents.
YouTube statement
On screenshots posted by many users, YouTube has admitted that some adult accounts have been accidentally converted into minors. Such users can upload government ID, credit card details or selfies to prove their identity. If a user does not confirm his age, then his account will be permanently considered a minor account and adult content will be completely banned on it.
