Shimla’s education department has suspended the government teacher posted in Rohru sub-division. In fact, just a few days ago, a video of the same teacher had gone viral on social media in which she was seen brutally beating a student with a forked stick.
The name of the teacher is Reena Rathod and she was posted as head teacher at Gawana Primary School in Rohru block. The teacher first removed the student’s shirt and started beating him with a forked stick. A video of this went viral in which the student is seen crying.
The incident happened in July
A senior official from the education department said that the child seen in the video is a class five student and his family belongs to the Nepali community. The incident seen in the video is of July this year. However, the action video on this was taken after it went viral i.e. on Monday.
Teacher Reena Rathod said that the student was caught stealing. After this, she was beating him to correct him by punishing him. After its video went viral, the education department has suspended the teacher.
The department says that this incident is a direct violation of Section 17 of the RTE Act 2009. Along with this, it is also against the guidelines of the Education Department regarding corporal punishment.
Second suspension in last four days
The Education Department has said that corporal punishment is completely banned in schools and such cases will not be allowed. Officials said the government will not tolerate any form of violence or harassment against children.
This is the second time in the last four days that a teacher has been suspended in Rohru sub-division. Last week, the Junior Basic Training teacher posted in the Government Primary School of Khorsu was suspended. The teacher was found drunk during the inspection by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate.
