US Earthquake Tsunami News: There is an atmosphere of terror due to the strong earthquake in America. A 7.0 magnitude earthquake was felt in North California, USA. The tremors were so strong that buildings shook. A tsunami warning was also issued for 5.3 million people living on the US West Coast.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS) at 10:44 local time on Thursday, the earthquake struck in an offshore area about 100 km northwest of Ferndale, a town in Humboldt County in northern California with a population of more than 1,000. The tremors were felt as far south as San Francisco. San Francisco is 435 km from here. Here people felt the earth shake for a few seconds. After this there were many small earthquakes. However, there is no news of any major damage so far.
After the earthquake, the tsunami warning continued for about an hour. The warning was issued immediately after the earthquake. The warning was for coastal areas extending about 500 miles (805 km) from the shores of Monterey Bay in California to Oregon. More than 50 lakh people were at risk of tsunami. According to the owner of Golden Gate Mercantile Ferndale, the tremors were very strong. The building shook. We are fine but there is still a lot of stuff scattered around.
It was initially reported as a 6.6-magnitude earthquake, and was upgraded to 7.0 by the USGS. Xinhua News Agency reported that the depth of the epicenter was recorded at 0.6 km. At least 5.3 million people in California were under a tsunami warning issued by the US National Weather Service (NWS) minutes after the earthquake struck.
A tsunami warning from the Oregon state line to the San Francisco Bay Area was canceled by the NWS on Thursday afternoon local time. Residents up and down the Northern California coast, as well as in the Central Valley, reported feeling the tremors. About a dozen smaller aftershocks struck northern California, but there were no immediate reports of damage.
