Success Story: A passing out parade was held at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun (IMA) on Saturday. The clatter of the marching boots of the gentleman cadets and the cheers of the proud families were proof of many dreams turning into reality. 23-year-old Lt. Kabilan V from Melur, a small village in Madurai was also among the new officers to receive a new commission in the Indian Army. His journey from a small village and poor family to becoming an officer in the Indian Army is heart-warming.
His father Vethriselvam also came to see Kabilan V become a lieutenant. For the wheelchair-bound Vethriselvam, it was one of the most beautiful and amazing moments of his life. Three months ago he was paralyzed due to a stroke. So they could only celebrate their son’s success by watching it silently.
Kabilan’s father was a daily wage labourer
Lt Kabilan V’s father Vethriselvam worked as a daily wage labourer. In which they got 100 rupees daily. But they had bigger dreams. He left no stone unturned in teaching his son. However, it was not easy for both Kabilan and his father. Kabilan’s mother, Panamayamal, died three years ago in the Covid epidemic. He was also suffering from cancer.
Rejected many times
Talking to Times of India, Kabilan said that it was not easy for him to reach this position. He says, I failed many times. I had to join the Army, I had to join the Defense Forces and I did. This is not just my personal success; This is for all those who want to join Indian Army. If someone like me, who is the son of a daily wage laborer and earns Rs 100 a day, can do it, then anyone can.”
B.Tech in Civil Engineering
Kabilan did his schooling in his village school. After this he obtained his B.Tech degree in Civil Engineering from Anna University. He NCC have also done He says that his dream of joining the army seemed far-fetched, but he continued his efforts. Applied for everything from NCC to Graduate Entry Scheme. Despite being rejected many times, he never gave up. He said that courage inspires me.
