Amritsar, December 3

Sukhbir Badal: Former president of Shiromani Akali Dal Sukhbir Singh Badal paid obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib on Tuesday, the first day after the religious punishment was imposed. He was sitting on a wheelchair due to a broken leg while on duty at the main gate and was seen wearing a neck brace.

Badal, who was the Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab from 2007 to 2017, will now handle the work of ‘Sevadar’ – washing dishes, cleaning shoes and bathrooms – at Harmandir Sahib. It may be mentioned that the Akal Takht has punished Shiromani Akali Dal and its government in Punjab from 2007 to 2017 citing “mistakes” and “certain decisions”.

While reading the order, Giani Raghbir Singh said that the cabinet ministers including Sukhbir Badal need to give a written explanation within 15 days. Former Member of Parliament Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa was also performing his duty on this occasion, he said, “Service is a command for me, this is the command of Akal Takht Sahib, I will sit near the door, I will also serve.” ANI
