Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna has arranged a two-day tour of Visakhapatnam for 25 Supreme Court judges and their wives in an exclusive and first-of-its-kind initiative. During this visit, these Supreme Court judges will enjoy Visakhapatnam and nearby Araku Valley while spending time with their families. The main purpose of this tour proposed for January 11 and 12 is to give the judges a short break from court work. Sources close to the CJI office said that this visit is purely personal.
The court official said, “The sole purpose of this tour is to give the judges an opportunity to spend quality time with their families. Only their wives will accompany the judges. Children were not made a part of this tour.” Sources said that among the top five Supreme Court judges Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice BR Gwai, Justice Surya Kant, Justice Rishikesh Roy and Justice Abhay S. Oka, only Justice Oka was earlier. Will not be attending this visit due to scheduled engagements. Sources said that the judges and their wives will either use LTC for this trip or will pay their own expenses. Sources said that the main purpose of Chief Justice Khanna’s move is to give the judges a break from the tension in Delhi. He consulted with other senior judges about this, who supported this plan. Meanwhile, it was also decided that all the expenses incurred on this trip will be borne by the judges themselves. -News-Patiala
