Team India is the defending champion of the T20 World Cup. India won the title by defeating South Africa.
The Mains T20 World Cup of 2026 can begin on 7 February. According to ESPN report, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has sent potential dates to the teams participating in the host country and tournaments. In which it has also been asked to finalize by 8 March.
The next T20 World Cup defending champions will be played in India and Sri Lanka hosted. The last time T20 World Cup was held in India in 2016 and Sri Lanka in 2012. The two countries will now host together.
Matches can be held on 5 venue in India and 2 venue in Sri Lanka There may be 5 venue in India and 2 venue in Sri Lanka. The final match can be played in Ahmedabad or Colombo. If Pakistan reached the final, then the match will be in Sri Lanka.
Both teams do not play cricket in each other’s country due to poor political relations between India and Pakistan. For this reason, India may host the Asia Cup, but the tournament is being played in UAE.
In February this year, the Champions Trophy was also played in Pakistan, but Team India played all their matches including the final in UAE. Therefore, the final of the T20 World Cup can also be in Sri Lanka.
The last T20 match between India and Pakistan took place on 9 June 2024 in the World Cup. India then won a close match by 5 runs.
The schedule is to be finalized The ICC has currently sent possible dates to all teams. The final schedule is yet to be decided. Like 2024, 20 teams will participate in the tournament, between which 55 matches will be played.
5-5 teams will be divided into 4 groups. Top-2 teams from each group will go to Super-8. Where 4-4 teams will be divided into 2 groups. Top-2 teams will get entry in the semi-finals from each group. There will be a final among the semi -final winning teams.
T20 World Cup can be done on 7 venue of India and Sri Lanka.
15 teams qualified So far 15 teams have qualified for the T20 World Cup. These include hosts India, Sri Lanka besides Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, America, West Indies, New Zealand, Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, Netherlands and Italy. Italy has made it to an ICC World Cup for the first time.
2 out of 5 teams remaining for the tournament will come from the Africa Regional qualifier. At the same time, 3 teams will come from Asia and East Asia Pacific qualifiers. Teams like Zimbabwe, Namibia, Papua New Guinea, Nepal, Oman, Hong Kong and UAE are contenders for 5 places.
India won the T20 World Cup in 2024 under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.
India matches for the first 5 months of 2026 in India In 2026, India has to host 3 big tournaments in the first 5 months. The New Zealand team will play the ODI and T20 series from 11 to 31 January. Then the T20 World Cup will start. Meanwhile, the Women’s Premier League (WPL) of 5 teams will also be played. India, West Indies and England won 2-2 titles The T20 World Cup began in 2007. India won the title by defeating Pakistan in the final of the first edition. 17 years later, India defeated South Africa in 2024 and won the title for the second time. Apart from India, West Indies and England have also won 2-2 titles. Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Australia have won the title 1-1 times.
In 2026, Team India will land in the T20 World Cup to defend the title under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav.
