Melbourne, 29 December
Despite the excellent bowling of Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah, thanks to the excellent batting of Australia’s lower order, the host team has taken a lead of 333 runs by scoring 228 runs for nine wickets in the second innings on the fourth day of the fourth cricket test against India. Australia lost six wickets for 91 runs in the second innings in front of the bowling of Bumrah (four wickets) and Mohammad Siraj (three wickets) after taking a lead of 105 runs on the basis of the first innings. After this, Marnus Labuschagne (70 runs) and captain Pat Cummins (41 runs) added 57 runs for the seventh wicket and then Nathan Lyon (41 not out) and Scott Boland (10 not out) led the way by putting on an unbeaten partnership of 55 runs for the last wicket. Meanwhile, Bumrah has also completed 200 Test wickets at an average of 19.56. He troubled the opposition batsmen a lot with his accurate bowling but the Indian bowlers missed the opportunity to maintain dominance in the last session. A win is still not impossible for India but it will require a good performance from senior batsmen and Rishabh Pant. Earlier, India scored 369 runs in the first innings thanks to Nitish Kumar Reddy’s (114) brilliant century but could not stop Australia from taking a lead of 105 runs. -News-Patiala

Gavaskar was actually taking Nitish’s father to the official broadcaster’s box (commentator’s box).
