Annu Malik explains, ‘The story of the border film was completely different. I was going through a different phase of life. When JP Dutta called me, I made a very cute love song. He recorded the song but he said that it is not for the border. Then they showed me a picture. Army soldiers were covered in snow up to the neck but one of his hands was out. He is posted on the border and is seeing far and wide that no enemy is coming towards our border. His hand is raised. I started crying after seeing the picture. Then JP Saheb said that these tears will make music.
Annu Malik said, ‘Now I tell the story of’ Sandesh Aaya Hai ‘. This song was made in just one day. There was a knock on my door. I was sitting in my sitting room. Some more songs were being made. There was a very busy going on in those days. It is a matter of the 90s. I was singing, doing the show. My stars were on high. Was doing two songs a day. Suddenly JP Dutta came. Javed Sahab came in. Javed Saheb closed my music room latch. Javed Saheb said that take out the pen and I do something knot. They started. Messages come, let us suffer, tell me the air passing, will I do so much work, go to my village… ‘I was thinking in my mind where this is the face. It seems to be a project, poetry is not there at all. There is a story, it is going on. When I saw the pages, I had filled 15 pages. Earlier, with a producer, I had a tune lukewarm. I used to sing that tune like this. Made and left the tune, just kept doing this. Used to record in cassettes. As soon as I wrote ‘Aa passing the air, I started to humble, I started humming.’
Music composer Annu Malik further said, ‘This song of the Border Movie actually started from here. Suddenly Javed Saheb looked at me and said ‘What are you singing?’ And as soon as I sang ‘My old mother lives there’ I sang this, suddenly I made a melody ‘message, we torture us, letters come, she asks ..’. JP Saheb saw me and Javed Saheb stood up. Javed Saheb picked up a cassette and said if you will give me autograph.
