There is a lot of talk about Rohit Sharma being out of the playing eleven. Rohit was not played in the fifth and final Test match against Australia. Jasprit Bumrah, who came to toss in place of Rohit, said at the time of the toss that Rohit himself has decided to opt out of this Test. The Indian fast bowler somewhere defended Rohit and said that he has been rested. Former Australian batsman Mark Taylor did not like this statement of Bumrah, it is being said that Rohit has been dropped from the team due to bad form, which is not correct.
Speaking to Triple M Cricket, Mark Taylor said, ‘Honestly, that’s what I would say to him. It’s like deviating from the issue again. The reality here is that no country captain decides to exclude himself from the last Test match of a series or any series decider. He has been fired. I don’t understand why it is not being said that Rohit has been dropped from the team.
Bumrah talked about giving rest
India’s stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah won the toss and elected to bat while regular captain Rohit Sharma decided to ‘rest himself’ from the match. Bumrah said that our captain has relieved himself from this match by showing his leadership ability. Shubman Gill got a place in the playing eleven while fast bowler Prasidh Krishna got a chance for the first time in the series. Gill has replaced the out-of-form Rohit while Krishna has been included in place of the injured Akash Deep.
Rohit ruled out due to poor form
Mark Taylor said, ‘It doesn’t mean he has been ruled out of the team forever. This means that he is out of this test. Because he is not in form now. This is called the professional game.’ Australia have given debut to all-rounder Beau Webster, who replaces the out-of-form Mitchell Marsh. Webster was given the baggy green cap by former cricketer Mark Waugh. India will have to win this Test to retain the Border Gavaskar Trophy while Australia only need a draw to clinch the series.
