New Delhi, 22 December
The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi today released a video in which the alleged ‘bad condition’ of the people in the state under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government was highlighted. Issues like sewage overflow, electricity supply, insufficient amount of water and garbage piles etc. have been raised in the videos prepared from different parts of the capital.
Deputy Governor V.K. Saxena’s video shows the affected areas, which he visited on Saturday. He appealed to the Delhi government to resolve these “hellish conditions” and give priority to the provision of basic amenities to the residents. Saxena said, “It was disheartening and disturbing to see the helpless and miserable life of lakhs of people in the capital again on the last day. Each incident has been explained in a tweet.” He said, “The smelly water collected on the streets and roads is not from rain, but from overflowing sewage. The women who narrate their problems and heart-wrenching sorrows are not from any other state or country, but from Delhi.”
According to the Lt. Governor, the areas he visited lack drainage systems, due to which the narrow streets are filled with silt and dirty water. Roads are in poor condition, electricity supply is unreliable and there is severe water scarcity, forcing the women to fetch water from a tanker, which comes once a week.
The Lt. Governor said that he has assured the residents that basic facilities will be provided and the cleanliness drive will be started from Monday.
The Lt Governor said, “I appeal to the former Chief Minister, the present Chief Minister and the concerned ministers of the Delhi government to visit these areas and see for themselves these hellish conditions. They should take immediate steps to rectify this deplorable situation.”
