Winter Storm: It is very cold right now in the country and across the world. The cold has taken hold in America too. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert regarding the snow storm. The severe winter storm will bring heavy snow, dangerous ice, rain and severe thunderstorms to a 1,300-mile area of the US, the warning said. The storm started on Saturday afternoon and will continue till Monday. This would affect 62 million Americans.
So far this winter, snow and ice has been confined to the northern states in the eastern two-thirds of the country, CNN reports. But this storm will break that pattern and bring dangerous conditions for millions of people from the Plains to the East Coast. It also includes areas with less chance of winter weather.
Chance of power outage in large area
Snow and blizzard conditions are expected in at least a dozen states with this powerful weather system, along with winds of up to 40 mph. This will lead to hazardous travel conditions and the possibility of power outages over large areas.
Severe storms can bring snowfall
NOAA’s Weather Prediction Center warned that “for some, this could be the heaviest snowfall in more than a decade. This snowfall could bring severe storms, including in some areas in December.”
Where will the storm come from?
According to the Winter Storm Severity Index, the storm “will cause significant disruption to daily life and create dangerous or impossible conditions” through Sunday in parts of Central America. Major impacts are expected, such as the widespread closure of large areas. A deep squall of moist air moving north from the Gulf of Mexico formed Saturday afternoon.
From there it will move east and bring wintry fury to the Mississippi Valley and parts of the Midwest by Sunday morning. The storm will expand into the Ohio Valley and the Southeast and East Coast Sunday night and Monday.
