Winter Storm: The cold has taken hold in America too. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert regarding the snow storm. The storm will bring heavy snow, rain and severe thunderstorms to a 1,300-mile area of the United States, the warning said. The storm started on Saturday afternoon and will continue till Monday. This will affect 6.2 million Americans.
Snowfall in the eastern two-thirds of the country so far this winter has been confined to the northern states, but this storm will break that pattern and bring dangerous conditions to millions of people from the Plains to the East Coast, CNN reports. It also includes areas with less chance of winter weather.
Possibility of power failure in large area
Snow and blizzard conditions are expected in at least a dozen states with this weather system, along with winds of up to 40 mph. This will lead to hazardous travel conditions and the possibility of power outages over large areas.
NOAA’s Weather Prediction Center warned that “for some, this could be the heaviest snowfall in more than a decade.” This snowfall can bring severe storms. “This includes some areas that are still reeling from December’s deadly storms.”
According to the Winter Storm Severity Index, the storm could bring disaster to parts of Central America from Sunday. Dangerous or impossible situations will also arise. The storm, which developed on Saturday afternoon, will be driven by a deep squall of moist air moving north from the Gulf of Mexico. From there it will move east and bring a cold front to the Mississippi Valley and parts of the Midwest by Sunday morning. The storm will expand into the Ohio Valley and the Southeast and East Coast Sunday night and Monday.
