Instant messaging app Whatsapp is constantly introducing new features to make its platform safe and reliable. Now the company has taken a big step to curb scams and fake accounts. WhatsApp has rolled out the new safety features, which will help users a lot in avoiding fraud.
Avoid unknown people in groups
According to the report of WABETAINFO, if a user is added to a WhatsApp group made by an unknown person (which is not in the user’s contact list), the app will show a safety overview screen.
This information will be available on this screen:
-What did you add to the group?
-Is that person in your contacts?
-Other members of the group are in your phonebook or not?
Till the user decides to stay in the group himself, all the notifications of that group will be muted. This will provide protection to users from fishing attachments and spams.
Alert in individual chats too
Whatsapp has also seen that scammers often contact other social media platforms and bring users to Whatsapp, and then make them a victim of scams. To stop this trend, the app is now doing a new safety alert test.
When a user will start chatting with someone who is not in his contact list, Whatsapp will show a pop-up alert. This alert will have some information related to that person, so that the user can start chatting thoughtfully.
Millions action on fake accounts
Whatsapp has informed that the company has recently removed more than 6.8 million scams and fake accounts. This shows that the platform is taking a tough stance against scammers.
The company has also clarified that end-to-end encryption and privacy of users will always remain, but necessary steps will be taken to make user safety stronger.
