Shehna, 29 December
The ‘one village one crematorium’ campaign has not failed and there are 8 crematoriums in the town of Shehna. In 90 percent of these 8 crematoriums, there are no facilities, there are no proper arrangements. The crematoriums of Shehna town are built in one and a half to two and a half kilos of land, while the population is 23000 and the death rate is 0.83. In almost 90 percent of the crematoriums, even wood is not available. The family of the deceased has to make arrangements from outside. There is one cremation ground in Barnala city, one in Tapa Mandi, one in Dhuri in Sangrur. Gurpreet Singh Shehna, leader of Tarkashil Society, says that more crematoriums are a source of ridicule. He said that people should be aware of this.
