After creating history by winning the first title of the Under-19 Asia Cup in Kuala Lumpur, now the next mission of the Indian team will be the T-20 World Cup. India on Tuesday announced a 15-member squad for the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from January 18 to February 2 next year.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Women’s Selection Committee announced the squad which will be led by Nikki Prasad while Sanika Chalke will be the vice-captain. The team has two wicketkeepers in the form of Kamalini G and Bhavika Ahire, while three standby players Nandana S, Ira J and Anadi T have also been included in the team.
A total of 16 teams will participate in this competition, which have been divided into four groups. India are the reigning champions and have been placed in Group A along with hosts Malaysia, West Indies and Sri Lanka. India will begin their campaign against the West Indies on January 19. After this he will play matches against Malaysia (January 21) and Sri Lanka (January 23).
The group stage matches will be played between January 19 and 23. The top three teams from each group will qualify for the Super Six to be played between January 25 and 29. There will be two groups of six teams in Super Six. The top two teams from each group in the Super Six will qualify for the semi-finals which will be played on January 31. The final will be held on February 2.
Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the West Indies qualified for the competition through their participation in the 2023 World Cup, while Malaysia received direct entry as hosts. Nepal, Nigeria, Samoa, Scotland and USA secured their place in the competition by winning the regional tournament.
