Many subjects like English, Hindi, Mathematics, Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), Social Science (History, Civics, Geography), Economics, Home Science, Sanskrit are taught in every school in India. Apart from these, various foreign languages are also an important part of today’s school syllabus. PT i.e. physical training in the form of sports and yoga is also preferred. Even such a rich school syllabus does not include life skills.
There are many life skills that are very useful throughout life. Some make life easier and some are useful for a job or business. If we start teaching about them from school days, then life can be made very easy. Under the New Education Policy 2020, many changes are being made in school education. It is possible that the future generations can be taught such life skills from a young age, which can also help them build a career.
School Syllabus in India: These subjects are missing from the school syllabus
The syllabus of Indian schools is very balanced as compared to other countries. It has a focus on both theory and practical. But we are currently lagging behind in teaching life skills. Know some of the life skills that need to be included in the school syllabus in some form or the other.
1- Personal Finance- This will help kids keep track of everything from pocket money management to future salary and investments.
2- Inter-Personal-Skills: For growth in personal and professional life, it is important to master communication, empathy and problem solving skills.
3- Personal Branding- The coming era depends on it. How well you present yourself is very useful in many areas.
4- Time Management- This is talked about in schools only during exams. If children are taught the benefits of time management, their progress is unparalleled.
5- Entrepreneurship- Entrepreneurship is given a lot of attention these days. Most people are pursuing careers in startups. They should know this from school level itself.
6- Survival Skills- It is very difficult to survive in real life. Basic skills like job hunting, managing finances, cooking, cleaning should be taught in schools.
7- Stress Management- Children start going through bad periods of depression and anxiety from a young age. The benefits of therapy and stress management techniques should be taught in schools.
8- Decision Making- Today we take many decisions every minute like what to wear, what to eat, where to work and whom to marry. This is also a skill.
9- Creative Solutions- Problems come in everyone’s life, they have to face them right from school life. In such a situation, one should know how to deal with them.
10- Self Awareness- If the child is smart in studies but not emotionally intelligent then he may face many problems. It should also be trained to understand oneself as well as others.
