Two gangsters belonging to the group of international level gangster Lakhbir Singh Landa and his close associate Yadwinder Singh Yadu were injured during an encounter with the police in Mand area last night. Apart from the two injured gangsters, the police have arrested four people including an ASI posted as Munshi in Chohla Sahib police station. SSP Abhimanyu Rana said that among the gangsters arrested in the encounter are Yadwinder Singh Yada (32), Kuldeep Singh Landu (32) resident of Rudiwala and Prabhdeep Singh (34) resident of village Dhun Dhaiwala. The arrested ASI was identified as Pawandeep Singh The injured gangsters include Yadwinder Singh Yada and Kuldeep Singh Landu SSP Abhimanyu Rana said that the police party was led by SHO Sub-Inspector Raj Kumar of Chohla Sahib Police Station and Inspector Amandeep Singh in charge of the local CIA staff. On the basis of a tip-off, the police party raided the place of the gangsters who were sheltering in the Mand area. The gangsters were asked twice to surrender but they fired at the police In response to this, when the police opened fire, one of the gangsters was shot in the leg and another was injured while jumping. The police arrested the three gangsters and the injured were admitted to the civil hospital in Tarn Taran.
A country-made pistol, three shells and four cartridges were recovered from the gangsters. It may be mentioned that on the night of December 22, the gang opened fire at the gate of a man of Rudiwala village when he refused to pay a ransom of Rs 50 lakh to Lakhbir Singh Landa. In this incident, the gangsters used the service revolver of Munshi Pawandeep Singh of Chohla Sahib police station, which the accused handed over to the police today. Pawandeep Singh is reportedly addicted to drugs and had given his service revolver to buy drugs by taking money from gangsters. The police has added the section of the Arms Act in the earlier case registered in this regard.
