UPI is a big news for users. New rules are being implemented from April 1, 2025, which will affect the payment apps like Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm etc. Actually, the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has said that it will remove those mobile numbers linked to UPI from the bank account, which have been closed for a long time. This means that if your bank account is link with an inactive number then it will be deleted. After this, UPI transaction will not be done through inactive numbers.
New rule brought to stop cybercrime
The number of cybercrime in the country has been increasing rapidly for some time. In view of this, NPCI has decided to implement the new rule. NPCI says that due to inactive numbers, there is technical flaw in UPI and banking system. Inactive numbers allot the inactive numbers to another users, which increases the risk of fraud. Along with this, NPCI has asked banks and UPI apps to revise the records of inactive mobile numbers every week.
These users will affect more
This decision will have the most impact on those users who took a new mobile number, but their bank account is still linked to the old number. Apart from this, those users will also have trouble with this decision, who are using UPI with their inactive mobile number. If your bank account is also a link to an old or such number, which is no longer active, then update your number with the bank account. Also, the inactive number can be activated by contacting its telecom service provider. After the number is active, after April 1, you will be able to use UPI services as before.
